Carson's Fall Colours Draft Horse Sale & Futurity Event Results for 2020
Friday turned out to be an excellent day with the sun shining and all 16 Horses and Competitors fired and ready to start their competition. Every year I think the quality of these 2 Year Olds can’t get any better, but I was proved wrong once again. All horses were developed and turned out in top class fashion. The judges had a very difficult job ahead of them. The full final scores and prize money can be viewed on our web-site but this year the top honours went to:
Burger Barn with “West Edge Cruze” a Clydesdale Gelding winning 1st place shown by Steve Robertson and taking home $10,250.00 in Prize Money. Steve and Tracey Robertson also won the Breeders Award so I’m sure this was an extra special award to win, in a year with no shows.
2nd Place went to Todd & Kathy Grier with “Grier Flash Carrie” a homebred Grey Percheron Filly who I’m sure we will see in the new hitch they are developing. They won $7,700.00 from the Prize Pot with this 2 year old. Plus 3rd Place also went to their breeding, “Grier Gordy Victor” shown by Mike & Roy Beuerman winning $7,150.00 with a homebred Percheron Stud Colt bred by the Grier Family who have always strongly supported this Futurity Program with both their breeding program and competing. They were rewarded this year with them also winning 2nd and 3rd place in the breeder’s award. In total the 2020 Prize Pot of $52,497.00 was divided among all the competitors, breeders & judges. A highly successful event which is helping our draft horse industry.
Not many of these 2 Year Olds were sold on Saturday so I’m sure we will see a lot of them again. Entered for the 2022 Futurity we sold 29 weanlings averaging $4,358.62 making a starting Futurity Pot of $44,240.00 for 2022 before any sponsorship is collected. This average was up $500.00 from last year which only shows this event is growing in popularity all the time.
Our Fall Draft Sale continued on Saturday but mostly with a variety of young stock being sold and 2 Production Sales from 2 Ontario Belgian Breeders, Keith Dennis of Markdale & Joe Hannan of Ramara.
Our top seller was a homebred Percheron weanling filly, “West Perth High Calibar” who sold for $11,250.00 bred and bought back by John Dekroon of Dublin to ensure he can compete in the 2022 futurity as he highly rates her and her breeding to “BP Prestige”. She is a filly who floats.
Second was the 6 Year Old Registered Belgian Mare from Joe Hannan’s production sale who sold for $11,000 to Ewart McLaughlin “Six Star Belgians” of Tillsonburg, ON. Ewart has always been a strong supporter of the Belgian Breed and added to his current stock probably getting ready to show and present his Belgians at the upcoming North American Belgian Championship being held next September 7-11, 2021 at the new Venue of Essa Agriplex, Thornton, ONT.
All in all we had a very successful sale and full sales results can be viewed on our web-site along with any and all up-coming sale date. Please visit our web-site to view www.davidcarson.on.ca
